About the Foundation
Rockville Housing Enterprises is a federally funded entity that provides housing for low-income residents. Even though we receive federal funding, we recognized a gap in need that prevented our residents from achieving self-sufficiency. RHE recognizes the need to provide more supportive services to our residents. In 2023, RHE launched the RHE Foundation, a new 501(c)(3) non-profit subsidiary of Rockville Housing Enterprises dedicated to raising money to fund resident-oriented initiatives. RHE Foundation’s mission is to empower and support residents by providing comprehensive services that enhance housing stability, promote self-sufficiency, and build community through accessible programs focused on education, health & wellness, career development, and engagement.
The RHE Foundation will focus its efforts on filling the gaps for the families of the participants of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS), Resident Opportunity Self-Sufficiency, YouthBuild Program, and the Foster Youth to Independence Program. Each of the programs provides a case worker for the participants. To be eligible, at least one resident of a household needs to register for one of the programs to receive funding from the RHE Foundation.
Here are the definitions of each program:
The FSS Program is ready to serve families across various housing assistance programs, including the Fostering Youth Initiative (FYI) Housing Choice Voucher Program, Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Housing Choice Voucher Program, and the Public Housing Program.
The ROSS Program serves families that reside in public housing units, the elderly (age 62+) participants, and individuals with disabilities.
The RHE YouthBuild Program is a workforce development and career preparation program that engages young people ages 16-24 who face barriers to education and employment and supports their development toward self-sufficiency.
RHE will fill the gaps in the following ways:
- Homeownership Program
RHE will provide support to graduates of the program who plan to purchase a home with $5,000 of additional funding to assist with the mortgage down payment.
- Rainy Day Fund
Support for residents that are going through a difficult time due to job loss or a car breaking down. A small gift can improve a resident’s life.
- College/Trade School Scholarship
Support 10 college or trade school-bound residents who want to continue their education.
